Grammys. Awesome. Their social team killed it again, a week’s worth of parties felt like a family reunion, the org’s public outreach efforts remind us of music’s place in education and in our lives, the live performances highlighted today’s best artists across all genres.

    Anyone that has been following me for some time knows I have been drilling on two crucial subjects in recent years — 1) the need for human-built hashtag metadata to facilitate the search, archiving, and repurposing of social visual content (more on that another time), and 2) the need to strengthen the relationship between visual content and SALES.

      Instagram ToS / The Need for Fair Use of Social Images

      I’ll be damned that, not even 48 hours after my final email of last year, Instagram went and changed their terms of service to basically read, whether intended or not, to say, “Oh yeah, all them pictures you’ve been posting on our platform for the past two years?  Yeah, we own them, and can make money off ‘em without compensating you.” WTF?!

            My heart goes out to everyone affected by the horrific weather and subsequent blackouts this past week, I hope you all get back to 100% soon.

                  Check this out — ESPNU is starting to INTEGRATE fan-shot video into sports highlights! I have been talking about this for a while, I will be talking about it even more in the months ahead — there is a TON of fan-shot content, video & still imagery from shows and events. And we as an industry are barely doing anything with ANY of it.
